Father of Medicine

 Hippocrates

He was born in 460 BC and also known as Hippocrates 2. He was a Greek physician by occupation at the age of Pericles. He can be considered as one of the most prominent figures in the history of medicine and can also be called as the father of medicine.

In his late age of life, he also founded Hippocrates school of medicine and thus he was well known for his contributions. Medicine was established as a profession in ancient days when intellectual schools revolutionized medicine in Ancient Greece.

It has become as a discipline which formed as a tradition later. From what Hippocrates wrote, though, and think, the achievements of writers of the Corpus, the practitioners of Hippocratic medicine and the actions of Hippocrates himself were often commingled.

He was credited with coining the Hippocratic oath, which was still relevant and which can still be used today. He was commonly portrayed as the paragon of the ancient physician. In clinical medicine, he was also credited with advancing the systematic study.

Hippocrates' first biographer was Soranus of Ephesus, who is a second-century Greek physician. He is also a source for the personal information about him. Later a few people also wrote about him. In Aristotle's politics of 4th Century and Suda of 10th Century also wrote about him in their biographies.

Soranus wrote about Hippocrates that his father was Heraclides who is a physician, and his mother was Praxiteles who is the daughter of Tizane. Both of his sons Thessalus, Draco, and his son-in-law, Polubus were his students.

From a later source by Galen, it was known that Polybus was a true successor of Hippocrates. His sons each got a son with the names of Hippocrates 3 and Hippocrates 4 respectively. Hippocrates has died in 370 BC at the age of 90 years.

Medicine is a word that doesn't need any introduction. Medicine is a field that rules the world. Medicine is a science which treats, prevents, and cures diseases. Medicine helps to maintain and restore health by preventing and treating illness.

Contemporary medicine will be helpful in many fields like biomedical sciences, biomedical research, genetics, and medical technology. These can further help to diagnose, treat, and prevent injury and disease. This can be done mainly by pharmaceutical or by surgeries. We can also cure diseases through therapies, psychotherapies.
